November is a cozy month, with cold weather settling in and the promise of feasts and gathering on Thanksgiving. We think that atmosphere makes this month perfect for reflecting on all we have to be thankful for.
That’s why we’re focusing on gratitude each day this month—we’ve got 30 Days of Thanks to share! Follow us on Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn to learn more about what makes the Directors Mortgage team feel grateful. If you want to reflect on your own sense of gratitude by sharing with others, scroll down to learn more about how you can help support local nonprofits in your community.
Directors Mortgage believes that getting involved in our local communities can make a positive difference in someone’s life. Some people need a little extra help, and it’s important to help ensure that these members of our communities have the opportunity to live a better life.
In October 2019, the Portland Business Journal named Directors Mortgage as the top philanthropic medium-sized company in the Portland area. We’re proud of this accomplishment, but we know we couldn’t have done it alone. Without our clients, we wouldn’t be able to give back to our local communities.
When we work together, we can multiply the impact of our actions and reach out to even more of our neighbors. If you’re feeling grateful during this Thanksgiving season, consider passing your gratitude on to those in need by giving to a local nonprofit organization. Whether it’s a food bank, soup kitchen, family shelter or youth outreach group, your donations make a huge difference to these charities.
How to Help Soup Kitchens, Shelters and Other Community Organizations Near You
How can you be most helpful? According to USA Today, most of these organizations need supplies, clothes and cash more than they need one-time volunteers to help out on Thanksgiving. Some small organizations find themselves overwhelmed by volunteers during the holidays, so instead of offering to serve food on Thanksgiving, consider bringing these in-need items to a shelter in your area:
New and gently used winter coats, scarves, gloves and hats from your family members and coworkers to donate
New socks and underwear for adults and children in a variety of sizes
New and gently used bedding, including warm blankets
Travel-size toiletries like shampoo, toothpaste and soap
If you aren’t sure which organizations in your area might accept these and other helpful items, make sure to check our social media feeds throughout the month. We’ll be highlighting a handful of organizations in Portland, Eugene, Bend, Vancouver/SW Washington, Seattle and Spokane. These and other local outreach groups could really use some help! Many of them allow quick and easy cash donations online as well, making giving as simple as a few taps or clicks.
Finding Food Banks Near You
Food banks are another important resource that helps ensure everyone in our communities has a full plate and a sense of gratitude this Thanksgiving. Food banks offer a lot of different ways to get involved, from food and cash donations to volunteer time spent helping to distribute donated food. There are a lot of different food banks, large and small, across the Pacific Northwest. Visit Feeding America’s website to use their excellent food bank finder search tool and find donation sites near you!
No matter how you give this Thanksgiving season, know that your generosity will be appreciated. It’s a great way to share your feeling of thankfulness with others!
This Veterans Day, Directors Mortgage is grateful for those who’ve served in the U.S. armed forces. We put that gratitude into action every day with VA loans for current and former military personnel. Veterans who are looking for an affordable way to buy a home should consider VA loans, which offer fantastic benefits, including
No down payment
Low closing costs
A flexible range of financing options

Where would we be without our dedicated staff? We can’t say a big enough thanks to all our team members at each of our locations. As Directors Mortgage grows and expands beyond the Pacific Northwest, we’re shouting out each branch in Oregon and Washington this November to say thank you for helping us get where we are today.
